The new EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR) comes into force on 12 August 2026, introducing far-reaching changes for everyone who manufactures, uses or places packaging on the market. Here at packit!, we are thoroughly familiarising ourselves with the requirements, closely monitoring the latest developments and are fully prepared:
- Timeline: In force since February 2025, with some provisions becoming mandatory from August 2026, followed by gradual expansion
- Recycling: The PPWR regards corrugated cardboard packaging as the benchmark for recyclable packaging; monomaterial, labelling and further optimisation remain key
- Material restrictions: Clear limit values for harmful substances (e.g. heavy metals, PFAS)
- Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR): New registration, reporting and cost obligations lead to increased documentation requirements
- Understanding of roles: Manufacturer, supplier, importer or distributor – obligations depend on the role
Packaging can already be optimised, single-material concepts implemented and documentation prepared.
We have in-depth knowledge of the currently known provisions of the PPWR and can support you with practical and forward-looking advice.
