Focus on PPR

The new EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR) comes into force on 12 August 2026, introducing far-reaching changes for everyone who manufactures, uses or places packaging on the market. • Timeline: In force since February 2025, with some provisions becoming mandatory from August 2026, followed by gradual expansion
• Recycling: The PPWR regards corrugated cardboard packaging as the benchmark for recyclable packaging; monomaterial, labelling and further optimisation remain key
• Material restrictions: Clear limit values for harmful substances (e.g. heavy metals, PFAS)
• Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR): New registration, reporting and cost obligations lead to increased documentation requirements
• Understanding of roles: Manufacturer, supplier, importer or distributor – obligations depend on the role
